We at GRIN Europe are very excited to invite you to our first 3 day European GRIN conference!
Join us on November 8, 9 and 10 in Barcelona to learn more about GRIN disorders and their complex symptoms and to meet with researchers, clinicians and other GRIN parents.
This year, for the first time we plan to add an extra half day to our conference to allow for two new activities that we think are much needed and are important for improving the diagnosis as well as the understanding of and the treatment options for GRIN/GRIA disorders. We therefore aim to invite to Barcelona all the referring clinicians and researchers in Europe that are currently working on GRIN / GRIA disorders, with the goal to create a consortium of specialists that will advise us on how to create transversal projects to study these disorders and to give better care to all of those affected by GRIN-related disorders.
To this aim we plan a workshop for researchers and clinicians on Friday afternoon and after this workshop we will organize a Meet-and-Greet with the specialists and with the GRIN families to learn from each other in a relaxed atmosphere. During the Meet-and-Greet we also plan a poster session by which we intend to encourage young researchers to share their work in GRIN / GRIA disorders with both their colleagues and with the families.
The Meet-and-Greet will also allow key representatives of the various national European patient organizations and family groups to share the particular needs of their community with the researchers and clinicians.
On Saturday we plan a full day of talks that will range from basic and translational science to any new advances in treatment of GRIN / GRIA disorders and updates on ongoing clinical trials.
Saturday night we will again host our famous Dinner with the Speakers where parents, researchers and clinicians can meet and mingle in an informal atmosphere while enjoying delicious Spanish and Catalonian specialties.
On Sunday we plan to dedicate half a day to the most puzzling symptoms of our children in order to advance the understanding of these symptoms and to gear towards research into the nature and treatment of these symptoms by GRIN / GRIA specialists from Europe and beyond.
Our sponsors
As you can imagine, an event of this magnitude is costly. At GRIN Europe we have always aimed to limit the costs for parents to participate in our conference to a minimum. Also we want to make sure that we can offer online participation for free for parents that are unable to attend the conference in person.
Consequently GRIN Europe relies fully on sponsors to finance her activities. Right now we are in the process of finding sponsors to help facilitate the organization of our conference. Further information on our sponsors will consequently follow shortly.
Should you know of interesting sponsorship opportunities for our conference, please contact us at board@grineurope.org.

Conference venue
The venue for our Fifth European GRIN Conference, the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital is located at:
Passeig Sant Joan de Déu 2
08950 Esplugues de Llobregat
Barcelona, Spain
We have once again chosen the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital as the venue for our conference. The Sant Joan de Déu Hospital is a renowned and highly specialized children’s hospital that is home to most of the European Reference Networks (ERN’s) for (rare) disorders.
In close cooperation with the Barcelona GRIN Team, the doctors at the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital have been treating children with GRIN disorders for the last 9 years and have built up considerable expertise in this area. The hospital is consequently a center of excellence and an important hub for research into GRIN disorders.
Since the very start of GRIN Europe, the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital has been a very loyal sponsor of the European GRIN Community and we are very honored and thankful that they have once again provided GRIN Europe with the venue for our Fifth European GRIN Conference and with all the online services needed for live streaming and recording for our conference.
